“He Saw Me”

He Saw Me. Thank God. Humans can have the worst self-talk. Maybe you don’t… but WE do. Did. I have no clue why. Grandpa was a prisoner of war, a purple heart recipient, a businessman, a cancer survivor, a father, and a faithful husband who would incessantly chase his poor wife around the house until well into his 90’s… trying to steal a kiss. She would always run away screaming. I can hear her now. Who wants a wet kiss from a 90-year-old man?! I think that she did. I’d take some more too… if I had the chance.

Whenever I saw him, Grandpa would always sit me down and talk to me about life. I remember him telling me that everyone has this itty-bitty shitty committee inside their brain, that tries very hard to tear us down. Mine is so good!! Award winning. How’s yours? But Grandpa’s voice was stronger. Grandpa would remind me all the time, exactly how he saw me. When the itty bitty shithole committee would rant and rave about worthlessness and ugliness and weakness and hopelessness, Grandpa’s voice would yell back with encouragement and handsomeness and truthfulness and hope. And it was my choice who I decided to listen to.

God sees us too. God’s love for us is clear. The way that God sees us, his greatest creation, is fortunately not up for debate. Strong, wonderfully and perfectly made, unique, purpose filled, capable, interesting, awesome. And it is our choice who WE decide to listen to.

He Saw Me is a story about that person. That other voice. He Saw Me is meant to encourage you to stop for a second, throw up a loving middle finger to that itty-bitty shitty committee in your brain, remember who YOU are, reach for the light that burns in each and every one of us, run up a hill, and HOWL AT THE MOON!!
